C.A. Portnellus resides in California, is married and a grown up 'child of the sixties.' As a free-lance
artist, Portnellus enjoys and is active in many creative arts: music, theater, textile arts, painting, drawing, sculpture, costuming, toymaking, ecological crafts (that's
making useful and beautiful or fun things from junk), graphic arts, photography
and computer creativity. Reading and writing books are a passion.
Driven by an inner fire to tell stories, C.A. Portnellus has created what will be a heartfelt and intriguing to read series for book-lovers who like big meaty books and adult readers who enjoy an adventure in a slice of time. Book One and Two are written in the styles of those great authors in past eras-Hemingway, Steinbeck and Michener. The honest yet gritty generational sweeping saga of the indomitable La Barre family spanning 13 books and six generations along with their fateful connections and companions, will keep the reader entertained and enraptured by the La Barre Family.
Intrigued by the legacies of family and the unique histories that each have, CA Portnellus has carefully crafted a compelling look at American Family life in the 20th and 21st Centuries, and believes that much of what has hurt us as a modern society is also sometimes the causal effect of the dissolution of the modern American family and the tenets that once kept families together.
While there is much to rejoice and be proud of in all the uniqueness of each family, it is also a sad sign of the times that many struggle to provide nurturing and loving relationships and homes and that social media has taken over to fill our lives. In years past, it was the radio dramas, Rock Music, or TV. For every era there is something new which eats away at our time and picks away at the roots of our relationships.
CAP likens this to the story of the little goatherder; once he discovered how to make a wooden whistle, he idled his time away making music instead of watching over his goats. Those goats wandered away and were met with an unkindly demise!
Yet how can we denounce those beautiful and perhaps God given sparks of creativity? If not for them, there would be very little pleasurable art, music, or beauty in our world, and heaven forbid- NO BOOKS!
These books are love stories at the heart of it all, mixed with a family curse and characters trying to keep the centuries' old legacies viable in modern times. It is a statement on how the world changes around us, yet how much we might need to keep the same to protect those we love.
